Bass Fishing On The Fly (Woolly Bugger)

Recently I taught myself to flyfish. I have officially become addicted. Not only have i just started flyfishing but i have started tying my own flies. The first fly I learned to tie was the wooly bugger. I have made my own modification to this fly i moved the hook size up a bit. I wrapped the hook with tan thread. Then i tied on the red tail( a peice of marabou feather). Then i wrapped the thread with copper wire to give the body a shine. Then Wrapped the body with marabou to make it "wooly". After securing that i superglued to eyes to the sides of the hook. The last modifaction was a few strands of shiny gold tinsel to the head with a hint of orange nail polish to the head. This fly worked well for bass fishing. I caught ten small bass in one day one a 6/7 weight fly rod. Im sure this fly could be succsesful in salt water. It kind of looks like a shrimp imitation. Well good luck tying.

  1. You might never need to learn to tie another pattern - the Wooly Bugger catches everything! Don't forget to tie some in whites and grays to initate minnows. Tie a gray one with a bit of flash-a-bou in size 4, take that 6/7 out, and catch a bunch of ladyfish - it doesn't get much more fun than that!
