Hawaiian slings

I haven't been spearfishing but i would like to use a Hawaiian sling when i go. These are super efficient. They are light fairly compact and easy to shoot. Also you can make one without a hassle. All you need to do it take a dowel and drill a hole through the center big enough to fit a spear shaft. Then take surgical tubing and tie it around the back to make a slingshot. Then you need to put a sort of holster on the tubing to hold in the spear shaft when you are shooting it. These are great for beginners. Also they are good for reef diving as far as shooting fish backed up in holes. But you must be care full about getting bigger fish because they could run off with your spear shaft. So its crucial that if you are going for that big fish that you stone the fish or kill it with the first hit.

  1. Hey Pierce. The ancient Hawaiian Sling we used as kids were made from copper tubing. 8" or so for the handle, 3" for the end that holds a long rod. One end smashed down so the surgical tubing could go through. No barbs on the rod or anything. Only a sharpened tip. Did the job though.
